Remember how fun that last family reunion was? The kids were running around, soaked by water balloons, with sticky hands from eating watermelon. Your aunt brought that wonderful brownie dessert that only she can make. The great-uncles enjoyed a few beers, as they discussed the fine art of barbecuing.

The teenagers listened to grandma's stories about the first automobiles and growing up during the Great Depression. Deep down, you wish you could hold onto these memories forever, but you know that life is fleeting.

Family genealogy, however, is not. It is your enduring legacy, your mark on the world. If you're interested in preserving family communication and beginning a family history genealogy project, then a great resource is MyFamily.

At the MyFamily “People” tab, you'll automatically have an at-a-glance address book as members join. You'll see a photo, name, address and email listed for each family member, making party invitations and event planning a cinch. Then, if you click on the name, you'll be taken to that person's basic profile. Currently, the profiles just list whether the member is an administrator or not, a nickname and some contact info.

However, in the upcoming version, members will be able to add an “About Me” paragraph to add some character. You can also send private messages through the family website and eliminate the need to go to a separate email at all. It will be easy to keep track of family histories and stay up to date on this compact website.

At first glance, this site may not look like much compared to other social networking sites. That's because the site developers are working on the new 2.5 version, which is set to debut very soon! You can already see previews of what your new Family Histories site will look like at MyFamily blog.

Instead of being a gray welcome page, the new homepage will be a collection of recently uploaded photos, videos, slide-shows, comments and status updates. When members arrive, they can quickly see what the whole family has been talking about and join in on the conversation! Undoubtedly, there will be a number of changes to come as the site administrators take user comments into consideration to improve the look and feel of the page.

While MyFamily is free to join, you may decide to upgrade to an “Essentials site” for a more enjoyable experience for everyone. The $25.95/year upgrade will remove all the pesky ads. Each family member will also get up to 1 GB of upload storage space for photos and videos, which is 10 times' more than the current limit.

You'll be able to customize the look and theme of your page to your liking and your family's website can be named so it's easier for relatives to find: MyFamily. All your current info will remain saved during the switch, which is an added incentive to consider this improved version.
